Community reports mostly positive
Most first-hand reports shared here ended in success.

Poland: banking for non-residents and digital nomads. Poland is an EU/Schengen member where, for a foreigner, accounts open only with difficulty. Most banks work mainly with local and regional clients, so it pays to come prepared with proof of address, source-of-funds evidence and a clear account purpose.

Opening an account and going remote. Whether you can open remotely varies bank by bank; some applicants confirm opening remotely or online; others note an in-person branch visit was still required.

Reporting, AML and stability. Poland takes part in CRS automatic exchange, so an account here is reported to your tax-residence country each year; it is not on the FATF/EU AML high-risk lists, so onboarding follows standard due-diligence rather than enhanced scrutiny; political and economic stability is rated high (World Bank governance indicators), which shapes the risk of capital controls, abrupt banking-rule changes or currency turmoil affecting your account.

What applicants report. What people brought: passport, PESEL, long-term national visa, identity document, Polish address, residency card (stated by some branches), employment contract, PESEL (sometimes not required per Zewwkin). practical tips from the community: try Credit Agricole if other banks reject on visa/PESEL alone; good alternative to Revolut; more reliable according to some users; shop around between branches; try a main branch not a kiosk; bring a Polish-speaking companion. Treat this as community orientation, not a guarantee.

Bottom line. Poland is a hard place to bank as a non-resident — line up a local tie or a fintech fallback before you rely on it.

PKO Bank Polskinon resident foreignerconditional

A Jamaican national on a work visa with PESEL and apartment lease opened an account at PKO same day with no work permit. Her Kenyan husband with identical documents was rejected at the same branch — staff demanded a work permit. They later opened at Pekao, which staff attributed to the couple having lived outside Kenya for years. Another non-EU UK resident was told PESEL is needed for joint account. A refugee applicant was told PKO BP may accept temporary refugee ID with branch manager approval at a specific Warsaw branch.

Kenyan applicant eventually opened at Pekao. Non-EU (UK) told they need PESEL for joint account. A refugee applicant was told PKO BP might accept refugee ID with manager approval at W. Rzymowskiego 31 Warsaw branch
Watch out: high-risk nationality (Kenya on FATF grey list) causes automatic rejection or work-permit demand. PESEL-less non-residents rejected for joint accounts
Tips: try a different branch if rejected · PESEL not strictly required per some reports · bring work contract · if Kenyan, try Santander or Pekao instead
